Welcome, thank you for visiting Rocky Cove Katahdins website. Our farm is owned and operated by Ted & Angie Fletcher along with our two children, Caleigh and Gabriel. Rocky Cove Katahdins is located in Duffield, Virginia which is in beautiful Scott County, Virginia. Since 2004 we have been breeding katahdin hair sheep. We offer registered and commercial breeding stock for purchase. Our katahdin breeding flock totals 50 commercial breeding ewes and 15 registered breeding ewes (and growing). Our ewes are only bred to genotype RR ram blood lines. Our bloodlines were purchased from long time well known Katahdin breeders.
We cull our animals looking for the best traits. We select breeding stock looking for the best growth, length, thickness, fertility, coat, milk and parasite resistance. Our sheep are raised as naturally as possible. We perform famacha checks to avoid broad based worming program. Here at Rocky Cove Katahdins, we keep only the most parasite resistant stock, culling to eliminate the less hardy animals. If our ewes do not produce twins or triplets they are culled. We practice rotational grazing and offer free choice mineral supplements. Also, we supplement our lamb crop by creep feeding with a well formulated blend of grain, to aid in early development before and after weaning. We only select the best quality stock for sale and the rest is sold as meat.
Individual health records are kept on each individual Katahdin in our flock using the Ranch Manager Sheep Edition software. Currently we are a voluntary scrapie eradication flock. We are members of the Katahdin Hair Sheep International, Scott County Hair Sheep, and Southcentral Katahdin Hair Sheep Association.
